The Florida Gators suffered their first SEC loss of the season at the hand of the South Carolina Gamecocks 72-69 Saturday afternoon.

Despite rallying from a 10-point to make a game of it in the second half, Billy Donovan and the Gators came up short at home.

Erving Walker led all Florida scorers with 17 points, Patric Young and Vernon Macklin chipped in 12 points each, and Alex Tyus rounded out the Gators' double-digit scorers.

South Carolina out rebounded (36-32), out-assisted (14-13), and forced more turnovers (9-8) than Florida in a fairly even game.

The Gators lost due to their inefficiencies at the charity stripe, missing 10 free throws in 22 attempts.

Florida takes the road to play Auburn Thursday night before returning home to face the Arkansas Razorbacks next Saturday night.
