According to Daniel Lasseter via an ESPN source, Florida head coach Will Muschamp has picked Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis to run the Gators offense.

Weis has both pro and college experience, something that Muschamp said he would look for in an offensive coordinator, and it's a clear indication that the days of the spread offense are over in Gainesville.

This move may seem surprising, but when you consider that Muschamp consulted Urban Meyer, a close friend of Bill Belichick, then hiring Weis makes much more sense.

Weis' college experience came as the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 2005-2009, posting a 35-27 record with two BCS bowl berths.

Here is ESPN analyst Lou Holtz's take on Florida pursuing Weis.
