Thanks to an inspired effort from big man Alex Tyus, the Florida Gators defeated the Bruce Pearl-less Tennessee Volunteers 81-75 in overtime.
Tuesday's win was Florida's fifth straight victory and ended a five-game losing streak to the Volunteers in Knoxville.
Tyus had a huge game for the Orange and Blue, scoring 18 points, grabbing seven rebounds, blocking three shots, and recording one steal, which turned into a clutch dunk in the overtime period.
Other Gators who scored in double figures were Kenny Boynton (17 points), Chandler Parsons (16 points), Erving Walker (15 points), and Vernon Macklin (11 points).
It was a very back-and-forth contest and the box score i very indicative of that fact.
Florida had 11 turnovers to Tennessee's 12, the Vols had 14 assists to the Gators' 11, and both teams recorded 31 rebounds.
Florida is now 2-0 in the SEC and will face the South Carolina Gamecocks at home this Saturday.
