The Florida Gators started off SEC play the right way, defeating the Ole Miss Rebels 77-71 in Gainesville Saturday night.

Erving Walker led the Gators' scoring effort, putting up 20 points in addition to six assists.

Chandler Parsons (17 points), Kenny Boynton (17 points), and Vernon Macklin (16 points) also scored in double figures for Florida in the victory.

The Rebels won the battle of the boards, pulling down 33 rebounds to the Gators' 28, but Florida took better care of the ball, forcing 11 turnovers and giving the ball up just seven times.

The win over Ole Miss was the Florida's fourth consecutive victory and marked the first time the Gators won their SEC opener since the 2008-2009 season.

Florida will try to end a five-game losing in Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN.
