According to The Gainesville Sun, the Florida Gators have offered Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart the same position on Will Muschamp's staff.
While a report that Smart had accepted the offer surfaced on an ESPN Twitter account (@ESPN_MobileCFB), nothing has been confirmed or denied as of yet by either university.
Muschamp and Smart, who both played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, also share a common coaching background.
Both men served as the defensive coordinator for the Valdosta State Blazers in back-to-back seasons (Muschamp in 2000 and Smart in 2001) and then eventually moved on to the same position at rival SEC schools.
If Smart were to join forces with Muschamp in Gainesville, the Gators could potentially have the best-coached defense in college football.
That being said, it would be quite an accomplishment if Florida could pry Smart away from Nick Saban and the talented athletes they have at Alabama.
