Florida linebacker Gerald Christian was a four start recruit coming out of high school as a tight end.

This coming season as a true sophomore,  Christian has made the switch from tight end to outside linebacker.

“I have no doubt he can be a great linebacker,” starting outside linebacker Jelani Jenkins said.

Chrstian has displayed the size, strength, aggressiveness and athletic ability to make the change.  He also played linebacker in high school at Palm Beach Dwyer.

Before making the change,  head coach Will Mushcamp spoke with Dwyer coach Jack Daniels,  who expressed to Muschamp what a good defensive player Christian was in high school.  After that converstation Muschamp made up his mind.

“I just like playing football,” Christian said. “During winter workouts, they decided to try me at a new position. At first, I was like I didn't know why."

“They told me it's best for the team. They said they needed big bodies playing linebacker, so they wanted to try me out there. They knew I played linebacker before.”

It's still very early in the spring but so far the results of the change are encouraging.
