With a convincing 86-76 victory in Nashville over #20 Vanderbilt, the Florida Gators clinched the SEC regular season title outright and set themselves up for a big run in the SEC tournament this week.
The Gators had all five starters score 10+ points, led by 17 from Kenny Boyton, and were helped by nine points off the bench by Patric Young. Erving Walker made up for a 3-11 shooting night by making 10 of 11 free throws, giving him 16 on the night. Early struggles by the Gators were erased by a 20-5 run to close out the first half and take a 38-30 lead into halftime. With the Commodores making one final push to beat the Gators, Walker sealed the deal with eight late free throws.
Florida (24-6, 13-3 SEC) has a first-round bye in the SEC tournament in Atlanta. They will play on March 11th against either Georgia, Ole Miss, or Tennessee, all teams they have beaten.
